#204 Drag Me to Hell
Directed by Sam Raimi
Year 2009
Sam Raimi never lose his early film geek sensibilities. 17 years after Army of Darkness and 17 years before Get Help, Raimi unleashed the grossest PG-13 movie ever made. (He was told no excessive blood, so he replaced that with nearly every other goopy substance.) Raimi’s gift beyond the visual trickery is that he really enjoys putting his characters through it, without being sadistic about it. You root for the lead characters, but they also kind of deserve the tortures they end up going through. Loud, shocking and hilarious… yes the film is very funny, but you may be too busy jumping to notice. It’s a real workout for your home sound system, containing possibly the greatest moment in cinema involving a goat, and it ends on a moment that is nearly impossible to forget.
