In film school, I had this photo hung on my wall from the set of Point Break. It was a Summer blockbuster full of slick action and danger shot with lots of visual poetry. It was unheard of that this type of entertainment would be directed by a woman, but here she was in the photo, looking at the footage with the cast and giving notes before the next take.
Patrick Swayze was an accomplished skydiver. At the same time, the producers didn’t want to risk the production by having their star do something considered so dangerous. This was a constant battle on set because Swayze would constantly want to do his own stunts. It is unknown how many times Swayze jumped on camera, though there are definitely takes of him in the air and speaking before falling out of the plane. He would frequently show up to the set when not scheduled to jump and either perform or skydive as a hobby.
