Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett may currently be the best at making fun Horror/Thrillers. Two Scream films, Abigail, the underrated Southbound and this, which is the best introduction to their mix of thrills, but not scares, and humorous amounts of blood and body damage. Samara Weaving is the star, but Melanie Scrofano gets the laughs as she keeps injuring her family and a couple of maids. The satire of the 1% is an obvious selling point, and that’s put over by the cast. The script just needs them to be the villains. The fun comes from watching the absurd premise play all the way out to its bloody conclusion. I haven’t seen the sequel yet – it just opened this weekend – but I hear it may be even better.
