#277 Tales From the Crypt

Directed by Freddie Francis

Year 1972

The Horror Anthology has always been a reliable sub-genre, with its peak period being the late 60s and early 70s. At that time the films often had the same creative team and a familiar cast of actors, including Peter Cushing, who anchors the middle story here. If you’re wondering if this is in any way connected to the HBO TV Series, the opening segment – “And All Through the House” – was remade by Robert Zemeckis and was the 2nd episode of the Series. The final segment, where blind residents at a retirement home take revenge on the cruel Director of Operations, was also redone for the show. (That segment is ver Saw-esque.) Sir Ralph Richardson plays The Crypt Keeper, in a long hooded robe and lacking any ghoulish makeup.
