One of the most popular Horror films of the 1950s, filmed with some of the most gimmicky 3D, and including an intermission even though the film is less than 90 minutes. (This was to give your eyes a break from the glasses.) The kind of gateway Horror you might half remember seeing as a kid, with another legendary performance by Vincent Price – his 5th so far on this list – as a wax sculptor who becomes crazed after a fire disfigures his face. The wax figures are a combination of real sculptures and real people, which creates an eerie effect of the museum seeming alive, though the figures are victims of violent murders. You wonder if they’ll come to life and look especially haunting when they catch fire, expressionless while the flesh melts off their bodies. An early film to display bodies for both sex and horror.
