#302 The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Directed by Steve Box, Nick Park
Year 2005
There are a solid 10 titles in our sublist of Intro to Horror, and even among them the only title that might be less scary is Muppets Haunted Mansion. Previously we’ve had The Witches, Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Were-Rabbit is a delightful stop motion animation feature starring the popular duo of Wallace and Gromit. The story obviously borrows from The Wolf Man, and they say Hammer Horror influenced the style, but I’m well-versed in Hammer and I don’t really see it. There is some of the community folk horror that you see in The Wicker Man and The Blood on Satan’s Claw, and things aren’t too far removed from Hot Fuzz. As a movie, it’s delightful and consistently inventive. For this list, it works best as one to show your kids, or as a palate cleanser when you’ve endured something too extreme.
