Sequel to The Quatermass Xperiment has the same mix of outlandish science fiction treated with intelligence that moves incredibly fast from one mystery crisis to the next. Pushing through all the polite Britishness is Brian Donlevy as Quatermass, constantly pushing his team of overly-cautious UKers forward. While a lot happens, the twists aren’t contrived simply to keep the viewer hooked. (Though there is a “don’t touch that” moment as boneheaded as petting the alien in Prometheus.) Budget limitations lead to moments like actors looking up and reacting to something we never see, but there’s also a lot of implied Horror that makes this a fairly safe watch for most, without pulling back on the thrills.
