Mad Max: Fury Road

Directed by George Miller

Year 2015

I often think about the long hard hot days on this set. Shots so complicated to set up they would take forever to actually film. It’s a constantly moving stunt show. The Picture Car Coordinator has never worked so closely with the Art Director because the vehicles ARE the sets. Most are designed like no actual vehicle on Earth – my favorite is Immortan Joes’ three different cars stacked on top of each other – and they have to perform stunts, breathe fire, handle acrobats on swinging poles and carry a moving Rock concert venue.

The film has to be scouted to support one giant set and then endless desert to drive into and then back from. Costumes are made out of Props. Props are built into MakeUp, and somehow the Actors manage to be as memorable as all the hardware. I believe this will go down as one of Charlize Theron’s best performances. Tom Hardy gets the ultimate part for him to communicate with gestures and grunts. Most of the ensemble are iconic for their unusual physical features, which leaves Nicholas Hoult to stand out from the group by doing some good old acting.
