The Witches of Eastwick

Directed by George Miller

Year 1987

The After Dark post for The Witches of Eastwick which is the #65 Horror/Thriller.

If you’ve seen the movie, you probably remember the cherry pit scene. It’s disgusting and wild and Veronica Cartwright throws herself fully into it. She had a little help, thanks to makeup effects wizard Rob Bottin. For fans of Horror, the name alone might instantly ring a bell. He’s responsible for all the gnarly creature effects in The Thing (1982). He worked on The Howling and Se7en, was nominated for 1987’s Legend and in 1991 received a Special Achievement Award for Total Recall. On Witches, Bottin and his team built a Veronica Cartwright. The puppet could convulse and thrash about and projectile vomit massive amounts of cherry pits on command. There are photos of the puppet online, well worth finding. I would’ve loved to be on set that day.
