Election
Directed by Alexander Payne
Year 1999
This is a very specific Production story told by Alexander Payne on the DVD commentary track. Towards the end of the movie, when Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick) is hitting bottom and spending the night at a Motel, he wakes up and opens the curtains. That’s it, that was the shot. Only, there’s a Set Production Assistant locking up on the right side who isn’t clear of the frame. So, when the curtains open there’s this one person standing in an empty lot for reasons unknown. Payne liked the oddness of it so much that he kept it in the film.
