The story isn’t scary so much as a stylish Fantasy with endless amounts of bold Art Direction, clever photography and special effects. It opens with the demonic Horsemen of the Apocalypse riding through the sky. For a flight to Italy was achieved with a motorized camera on a rail running along a 115ft miniature set. The shot of Mephisto looming over the village below inspired the Chernabog demon at the end of Fantasia.
