#20 Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Directed by Don Siegel

Year 1956

The 1978 remake has a slight advantage because of the way it builds out the story, effectively amping up the scares and themes of humans losing their humanity and becoming a hive mind. It doesn’t matter which version you watch first because the original has an incredible sense of pace, building tension and paranoia with countless great shots and unsettling moments. In 80-minutes this film gives you the ride and lets you think about it after Miles’ final haunting warning delivered directly to the viewer.
