#329 Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Directed by Stephen Chiodo
Year 1988
Stephen, Charles and Edward Chiodo have a background in practical effects, clay modeling, creature design and stop motion animation. The great thing about the Horror genre is fans can be very forgiving of budget limitations if there’s a creative idea executed with a lot of imagination. Killer Klowns is a one-joke idea, but there’s a surprising amount of creativity and variations on what the title promises. This takes the idea of fun kills and takes it all the way down, away from extreme gore into silly uses for popcorn, pies, squirting flowers, jack-in-the-boxes and balloon animals. The props and sets are impressive considering the super low budget, and the designs of the clowns are memorably exaggerated, unlike any other cinema clowns, and only really scary if you just hate clowns.
