As I post this, The Odyssey is entering its 2nd weekend of release, so we are still just scratching the surface of it and the many production stories that went into making the epic. There are also hundreds of think pieces in print and podcast form, so I aim not to repeat anything they dive into. I notice a lot of people say it takes some time to fully pull you into the adventure, coming into focus around the cyclops sequence. I had the same reaction, as if Nolan had so much to talk about he jumped into the middle of about a half-dozen story points right away. Odysseus story about the fall of Troy puts a lot of the beginning in context, which explains why I also hear how this plays better on a 2nd watch. **SPOILER** (I did not expect Nolan to stage a finale that reminded me of the Crazy 88 fight from Kill Bill.) **END SPOILER**
From a production standpoint, Im interested to know the basics of how the film was budgeted and scheduled. How much was spent to build and destroy the sets? How did they move the Trojan Horse, how much did it actually weigh and how much of the pulling was practical? Like everyone else, I’m curious how The Cyclops was brought to life? Is that as much of the six-headed monster Scylla as Nolan wanted to show? How did they conceive, budget and execute the encounter with Circe (Samantha Morton)?
