#325 The Pit and the Pendulum
Directed by Roger Corman
Year 1961
Adapting one of the most sinister Edgar Allen Poe short stories to feature length wasn’t going to be easy, and the film suffers at times from making you wait for the pendulum sequence. Of course, there’s Vincent Price to entertain you, but the production was also quick to grab Horror star Barbara Steele, fresh off Black Sunday. Unfortunately, the lead went to John Kerr, whose as exciting as a loaf of bread. Corman build to the grand finale with a plot that rips off the big Horror hit of the previous year. He plants that inside unusual photography, Gothic atmosphere and Price acting like his life depended on it.
