#123 The Incredible Shrinking Man

Directed by Jack Arnold

Year 1957

1950s Horror/Thrillers are marked by outlandish science fiction premises that allow for adventure and special effects surrounded by smart sounding people who inject logic. Here, the person trying to solve the problem is also the one facing the unknown. It puts the story on human terms while he never stops decreasing in size, so that just when he learns how to deal with a cat, he now has shrunk to where a spider is his greatest concern. Our shrinking man doesn’t simply go insane, he becomes paranoid watching his home turn into a battlefield, all while wondering if the shrinking will ever stop. And if it doesn’t… what then?
