#190 The Night Stalker

Directed by John Llewellyn Moxey

Year 1972

An exceedingly enjoyable murder-mystery investigation that resolves itself as a vampire Horror film with a script by one of my favorite writers Richard Matheson (Duel, The Devil Rides Out, The Incredible Shrinking Man) and set in the Las Vegas night, The Night Stalker is right up my alley. What works so well here is the setting of a world where the Supernatural explanation has always existed, but could never be proven until this exact case. This was a TV Movie, but it looks a lot more professional. Playing the nosy reporter Kolchack, Darren McGavin doesn’t stand out in any noticeable way, but the character is one you want to watch in further adventures. (Unfortunately, when they did exactly that, McGavin made the character’s “smarter than you” sarcasm too unlikable.)
