We are now 9 films into what has become an annual Shocktober treat (or trick, as was the case in 2026). There is – of course – debate within the community over which one is the best, but according to the data this one most often appears at or near the top. The misogyny of the first film hasn’t completely left, but it is reduced by a lot. The segments are all solid, with an increase in budget, shocks and gore. This is the entry that includes “Safe Haven”, often seen as the best individual segment. Written and Directed by Gareth Evans (The Raid) and Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2, The Night Comes for Us), it created a blueprint for many episodes of the series where a strange location ultimately collapses into violent chaos. This is about an Indonesian death cult on the day of its big ceremony.
