Who doesn’t want to go to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory? Not the garish 2000s CGI assisted abomination, but the actual, tangible sets built for the 1971 movie and designed by Harper Goff. Goff’s only award was being inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame in 2014. He worked on Casablanca, designed the submarine for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and was the Art Director on Willy Wonka. He had a hand in designing Disneyland, particularly Main Street and The Jungle Cruise, but his greatest set will forever be the Chocolate Room, built in Bavaria Studios in Munich. While Wonka sings about “Pure Imagination” the characters roam free in a warehouse made of candy. You can even eat the dishes.
